London Community Programmes

Girls United works with London community organisations and councils to set up programmes to empower girls through football.

We are currently running programmes from a grant awarded by the Tampon Tax Community Fund. Girls United also won the King’s Civic Challenge award on 13 March 2020, allowing us to develop a new programme aimed at inactive 13-16 year old girls, to combat inactivity and empower these girls with skills and the confidence to succeed in sport, academics and their future careers.

Girls United won the Tampox Tax grant allowing us to create two bespoke “Trailblazer” programmes across 5 new venues. These consist of active workshops around life skills and personal development for girls in South London. Alongside the programmes we will support 5-8 new female volunteers who will attend the sessions as role models whilst being supported through specifically designed workshops.

Black Prince Trust is a great example of the above programme as one venue we are trialling our "Trailblazing" programme with. Every Thursday we support running a Primary School League for Brixton and Oval based schools who play fixtures alongside completing a workshop based around a life skill that can be evident in school and on the football pitch. Engaging 15 school and 16 teams in this 6 aside league, Girls United will now be running a free session on Friday evenings at BPT to provide an opportunity for those in the league to have access to a "club" session.

SOUTHWARK POLICE PROGRAMME

Girls United have teamed up with Southwark Police to create pathways for at risk girls to join our club and play football!
