Weir’s passion for gender equality and creating more opportunities for girls to play football is harmonious with Girls United’s initiative of setting up clubs for girls and women in disadvantaged communities. The Dunfermline-born player will work with Girls United to increase visibility of the women’s game, inspire young players as a mentor and role model, play an active part in developing the organisation’s coaching methodology and support the growth of Girls United to impact more girls globally.

Caroline commented: “It’s an exciting time in women’s football right now, the game is growing but it’s important for me to help create opportunities for others.  Increasing the visibility of the game is key and hopefully I can inspire more young girls to get, and stay, involved in football.  Lots of girls, especially teenagers, drop out of the game.  I also want to help highlight the many positive physical and social reasons for girls to carry on playing.”

“In just 3 years Girls United has set up six clubs, engaged over 800 players and hosted several leagues, tournaments and workshops in Mexico and the UK,” says founder & CEO Romina Calatayud, “We have always believed in the power of an excellent team to grow our impact and Caroline is truly an outstanding addition of passion, experience and commitment to the team.”

Caroline started her career at Hibernian Ladies at age ten and has since gone on to play for Arsenal (where she won the 2014 FA Cup), Bristol and then onto Liverpool, where she won the 2016 Liverpool Player of the Year, also winning the Scottish Player of the Year.  In June 2018 Caroline signed for Manchester City, winning the Continental Cup and FA Cup in 2019.

Having represented Scotland at all youth levels, Caroline received her first full international call up in June 2013 at age 17.  She has since gone on to make 71 appearances scoring 9 goals in the process and played in the 2019 World Cup.
