Focused impact for change

THE GIRLS: Our approach for creating an impact on a wide-scale and for changing any limiting notions help by communities is by empowering individuals. The girls are our focus. We work in communities that do not have academies for girls - but where they are enthusiastic to learn.

FOOTBALL: Sport has the power to transform and football is a truly global language. It is accessible, inclusive and a game that unites us. Being a valued member of a team has the power to develop players far beyond their physical capacity.

I would describe the experience as worthwhile and uplifting. The location is truly an undiscovered paradise.

CULTURE: Volunteering at Girls United means going beyond coaching duties to fully immerse yourself in the local culture. We facilitate this by providing you with a language course, offering a wide range of unique activities (including visiting Cenotes, Mayan ruins, snorkelling in the Caribbean Sea, boat trips around the Bacalar Lagoon, amongst others) and the sharing of food, music and tradition between the girls, their families and the volunteers.

We are located in a municipality of Bacalar, in the State of Quintana Roo. The town has the perfect mixture of natural beauty and culture, making it the ideal spot to explore Mexico.

Bacalar is a idyllic town which was named "Pueblo Mágico" (or Magical Village) in 2006 for its culture, history and natural wonder. It is home to the Bacalar Lagoon, a pristine lake known for its seven shades of blue and fresh, pirate navigated waters.

Quintana Roo is a state on the Yucatán Peninsula. It borders Belize, Guatemala, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Its central location in the American continent makes it a great spot for any travellers wishing to go south, towards Central and South America or north, towards North America.
